Food and Beverage Rules for When You Have Aligners

Posted .

Are you achieving the smile of your dreams with Invisalign® aligners? If so, you need to remember to follow the food and beverage rules while you’re aligning your teeth. Following the rules can help you have a more successful and convenient orthodontic journey. Our dentists, Dr. Frank Russomanno, Jr. and Dr. Neil Keane, are happy to help you follow those rules by providing them here:

-Remove the aligner before you eat or drink anything (Keeping the aligner in the mouth can make the aligner extremely dirty and it can even damage it)

-Make sure to brush and floss your teeth before you put the aligner back on your smile (This can help you avoid trapping cavity-causing substances under the aligner)

-Avoid chewing gum when you have the aligner in your mouth (The gum will stick to the aligner and ruin it)

-Try to avoid foods that promote plaque buildup (This is because if the plaque builds on your smile and you place the aligner over the teeth, the plaque will have a chance to create cavities)

-Do your best to eat foods that are healthy for the teeth and gums (This can keep your smile healthy and strong during treatment)
